LAWTON ALTERNATIVE SCHOOL GARDENS, SAN FRANCISCO

Designed in collaboration with Jeff Mclane and Shalini Agrawal, and implemented under San Francisco's Green Schoolyard Initiative, Lawton includes an Outdoor Classroom, Kindergarten Yard, and an Edible Garden, along with fully accessible features, integrated with building grounds improvements.  Utilizing drought tolerant California Natives, the design also includes a tactile and fragrance sensory garden.

The Outdoor Classroom centers on an instructor presentation structure.  The Edible Garden features terraced seat planters.  The Kindergarten Yard includes planting areas cut out of the existing concrete paving and a solar array tower.  The Design Team will also facilitate the implementation of several community components, including a student mural and "Friends of the Urban Forest" street plantings.
